Q.  What laws should someone with pets be aware of?
A. Aurora has a number of laws of prohibited acts pertaining to dogs and cats. The following laws are the most frequently encountered laws.

DOGS AND CATS; Running-at-Large.
Pursuant to the statutes of the State of Nebraska, including sections 17-526 and 54-607, it is hereby declared to be unlawful for the owner of any dog or cat to allow such dog or cat to run-at-large at any time within the corporate limits of the City. It shall be the duty of the City Police
to cause any dog or cat found to be running-at-large within the City to be
taken up and impounded. A dog or cat is running-at-large when it leaves the owner's premises or goes upon the public road without anyone near having control of the dog or cat.

DOGS AND CATS; Dogs Barking and Offensive.
In accordance with the statutes of the State of Nebraska, including section 17-526, it shall be unlawful for any person to own any dog or cat which by loud, continued, or frequent barking, howling, or helping shall annoy or disturb any neighborhood or person, or which habitually barks at or chases pedestrians, drivers, or owners of horses or vehicles while they are on any public sidewalks, streets, or alleys in the City. The provisions of this section shall not be construed to apply to the City dog shelter.
